1st Sem in a Nutshell💓

Clock-Tower of IIT Jodhpur

Hello everyone! First of all, thank you for taking out your precious time and reading my blog! If you have read my first blog then you might know who I am. If you haven’t, then WELCOME!! Let me introduce myself! When I wrote my first blog, I was mere a JEE aspirant who just gave her JEE-Advance exam and was exploring this blogging culture… But now, I am a student of IIT Jodhpur and have successfully completed one semester here. So, when I said that I am a student of IIT Jodhpur, non-IITians might want to know how life is in IIT and how it is different from other college student’s life, so this blog is for you guys! And to all the IITians reading this, you might find this a little bit relatable. Again, it might be possible that you might not agree with me, but this is my point of view and I completely respect yours!! So let’s start!!

During my first month here, I used to wake up early in the morning around 6(2 hours before the lectures). Just like at home, I used to bath, have proper breakfast and then go to lectures. Sadly this thing or routine didn’t last long. This is one of those things that changed during my 1st semester. During the course of ONE semester, I started waking up around 45 minutes before the lecture, stopped taking bath before going to lectures (actually stopped taking bath daily as well.. now I take bath once in every 2-3 days in winters though…In summers you can’t stop yourself from having bath, atleast once in a day.) and started eating my breakfast twice as fast as I can because you don’t want to get late for your lectures. Also, here in IITJ punctuality is given importance. Like professors will close the door of the classroom if you come after 7 minutes or so and you will be marked absent. I guess this whole bathing thing and waking up late can be relatable not only to IITians but other college students as well. Also, if you take bath daily before attending lectures then I SALUTE YOU MY FRIENDS. Also, one change that I have noticed in myself is in the initial months here we all used to dress up in new clothes and now we literally wear any random T-shirt we see and jeans or pyjamas … THAT'S IT.

So, apart from the change in my morning routine, my night routine has also changed drastically. At home I used to go to sleep around 11. Yeah I know that’s quite early but I used to wake up early too, so that kind of balanced it out. After coming here, in around 1 month this habit changed. Now after 1 semester, I currently  go to sleep at 2 or 3 at night. Now you must be thinking that what keeps me up this late. Firstly, when you live in hostels, you have friends who attack your room any time at night and they are the biggest reason why this habit has changed. Also, you have lab reports and last minute assignments to finish so you kind of get habituated to this new late night-waking up late routine.

Now let’s come to the interesting and most important part of our college life…Academics. Yeah I know that was a lame joke (and a painful one too) but still Academics is the most important part of college life. Apart from all the fun and masti in college life, we all know that without academics or grades our college life is incomplete. Now, I am not a very good student rather I am an average student. But my life is going good. Here, there are 2 minor exams and 1 main end semester exam. So initially, we were scared about how to study for exams and how much time we should give daily (which was nearly impossible for us as our whole day went in classes, friends, and clubs). So, for this confusion to end, we went to our seniors for suggestion. And they said something which we realized only after our 1st semester. What they said was that for minor exams you just need one night before the exam and for final exam you can start preparing 1 week before the exams and you’ll score good. Now, coming from a background where we started preparing for an exam 2 or 4 years before the exam, this thing seemed quite illogical. We thought you must be very sharp and intelligent to follow this and get amazing grades. But gradually we realized that once you know from where to study and how, you can pull this thing or concept off. But still, I like to be prepared beforehand. So in my 2nd semester I am taking out time daily so that I can study. Let’s see how far this goes. (I hope it lasts till the end of the semester).

Now, I guess I should end this topic here itself as nobody likes to read about academics. So let’s come to the interesting part of my life, this time it’s SERIOUSLY INTERESTING. I am talking about clubs. Now in every IIT there is a hierarchy. There is a student gymkhana, under which various societies come, for example Science and Technology Society, Cultural Society, and many more. There are various clubs inside a society. Like in Cultural Society there are clubs like Dance club, Drama club, Music club, and lots more. During the initial days of our college, all the clubs arranged an introduction session so that students can decide which clubs they want to be a part of. Now let’s go back to my school days, from 1st standard itself, I have been very much fascinated by dance. From the time I was a kid till today, I have always been a person who loves to dance. The difference is when I was young, I used to dance on my own, copying steps from any Bollywood song and today I am proud to be a part of The Groove Theory (Dance Club of IIT Jodhpur). Though I am not so good at it but I guess in these 4 years I’ll come out with some extra talent. Now clubs are the best way to have an interaction with seniors. Also I went to Cult Meet 2019 held in IIT Bombay last year. (A blog might come on that soon). During the Cult Meet, I had great interaction with my seniors. I guess all the things seniors said were true, you really enjoy and have a blast during Cult Meet and dance practice.

So, till now I have talked about the change this one semester has brought to my life, academics, clubs, now the thing which is common among all the colleges in the world are F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Yes, I am a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan. But here I am talking about real life friends which are there with you no matter what. Now being a highly extrovert person, I can easily make friends and talk to anyone. But finding friends who can be your lifeline is hard. I guess it’s not hard; it just needs a bit of patience. I have lots of friends in this college, including my batch-mates, my seniors, watchman aunty (of my hostel), but the number of people I am actually close to are just 5. These are the ones with whom I share everything that happened in my day. Actually I don’t need to specifically tell them, they are with me the whole day. So they kind of know everything that happens, all the weird and awkward things I do and I know about theirs too. I am not the only one who is weird; we all are at some level. I won’t name them but I guess all the IITJ’s students know who I am talking about. Amongst us, 2 are of drama club (one is literally a drama queen and other one is our sarcasm queen), 2 are of dance club (yup that includes me), and 2 are of sports people (one is a bit messy and the other one is a bit shy). Sometimes I think that we all are so different from each other, yet when we are together we all are equally mad, equally weird, we all do crazy stuffs like teaming up and pulling leg of one, making weird videos, clicking random photos of us doing some mad things in our unusual clothes, and lots more which I can’t specify here (but I can guarantee it’s a crazy world of us 6).

So I think I have written enough and you will be bored and tired of reading this humongous blog. But I literally enjoyed writing it. It was like a throwback of everything I did in this semester. You know for writing this blog, I didn’t make any notes or key-points. I just wrote it, smiling all the way throughout the blog. I hope you enjoyed reading it because I enjoyed writing it.

5 Things my Mom taught me!

That's me - before puberty hit me and my mom - pretty as always :) Puberty hit me good! My mom still the same :') The context behind this very special blog is because it's my Mum's birthday today (PS: You can wish her in the comments below). And to do something special for her I decided to write things that she has taught me knowingly and unknowingly. I think that the most special feeling for anyone would be that they have made an impact, an influence on someone. That feeling is just more than money or love. It's a feeling of respect, and how the days you've talked has to lead to that breakthrough. And being my mom, she knows me for 19 years now (and 19 days, but not my point). I have mentioned her and my dad in many of my blogs but they both have taught me so much more. So, here are the 5 things I learned from my Ma: 1. Hustle as much as you can when you are young - this will ensure a comfortable life later! Now, I know this contradicts the point of 'Life i...

To the best week of 2021!

I know it's too soon to announce the best week but I feel I'm not going to have a better week in the remaining months of 2021.  I visited my Nani house and met my 6 cousins.  Played an endless number of card games. Mostly lost in all. Jammed to 2000s songs while playing. Got challenged to recognize songs just by the starting tune. Won that challenge with flying colors 😉 Got dressed up. Hijacked elder sis's jewelry collections🥵. Troubled her while sleeping by cuddling😈 My Younger sister combed my hair from time to time😂. Lots of internal jokes🤧 Middle sister making efforts to make the house of cards. And me like a pretty nice sister trying to crush that house😊 Comparing heights with both my brothers😬. Still proud to be the tallest🏆. Laughing on almost any random thing. Talking about school and online studies📖 The infinite arguments and exploring options for Movie night🎥 Fighting for who will get that last chip at 1am. Gulping down Jeeru bottles🥤 Everyo...

First days are always exciting, no?

To start with, I forgot to mention the GOOD news in the last blog. We crossed 5000+ All-time views on these blogs after 25 blogs. Yayy!! I am really grateful for this and so happy! I never thought these blogs will ever be such an important part of my life but now I can feel that these are growing into something more big and meaningful for me. So, thank you all of you who always took out time to read and comment on my blogs. I love you all💓 Having said that, let me start today's blog.  Being an experienced stationery-lover, the only thing I find exciting in a new academic semester is to start using new books and pens. Going all out on stationeries. Throughout the academic year, I crave vacations and when they finally arrive I crave using the stationery and new books. It's a never-ending cycle!! (My first blog was literally about  Vacations!!??..  ) Today, I woke up at around 7:20 (which is pretty early for me). I gave myself a pep talk and tried to lure myself to wake up ...
