My First Internship - Arowa Webtech

The Team of Arowa Webtech

Now, I know many will think it’s no biggie to write about but for me it is and firsts never come again. This blog might not be for anyone else but me. For the future Zeba to read so that she knows how her first experience in the professional world was and how she has grown ever since. (Although right now I’m feeling super-duper professional maybe future Zeba might have different views). So, let’s start from the beginning, shall we?

This started back in the month of February 2021, when one day Ma was seeing the WhatsApp statuses and came across this poster saying the opening of internships as a Creative Content writer. She passed that onto me to look at. Now, having no idea what Content Writing is, but having a little knowledge of writing (from writing blogs only), I sent in my resume with practically nothing noticeable in it. And to be noted I tried before too, to apply for an internship in the same field but didn’t get much success with it. I had no idea what things should be written in the samples to be provided, so it was pretty obvious. I was selected till the last round in one company but couldn’t make it through and there was this other company based in Canada. Wait let me tell the tragic story of that first!!

The Canadian company – let’s call it Fem, okay? So, I applied through LinkedIn. It was a month-long internship with no stipend but the website and the content on their website got me hooked so I applied. I was really happy to be communicating via Emails with the Head there. I was almost selected (I think so at least). They asked for an Interview Call and I agreed. I fixed the date after my end semester exams and was pretty excited about it. But alas, no call came that day! I mailed to ask what happened but got no reply. No, I was not ghosted.

During that time, I was called for the interview at Arowa Webtech (where I did my internship) and I went there. I took my mom with me to the interview as I was pretty nervous (also, coz I couldn’t drive the car alone back then). She waited for me in the car while I went and gave the interview. The heads there first explained to me the basic structure of Digital Marketing and then explained to me the details of the internship program. Fortunately, I was selected. And with no further contact with Fem, I started with my internship at Arowa Webtech.

Okay, one more thing left. So, the internship was for 3 months. I was a bit skeptical about it being so long and because my vacation was just 15 days and I would have to work during my academics (and also coz it was my first official internship). Now, as usual, the rescue to my despair came my Dadu (HKG). He told me to go ahead and not think about it much. And so, I did. I still owe him to this small push I needed.

Now within 3 days of starting, one day at random I get a mail from Fem explaining the no contact gap. And the same night I got a call from them. Unfortunately, I had to say No owing to my commitment to the ongoing internship. I was a bit upset about it but the greater joy was waiting for me which I was unaware of, at that time.

The first month went in basically learning about SEO, how to write captions, hashtags and their importance, brochures, company profiles and so much more. The first month all the things I wrote went under lots of edits. To write personal blogs and writing professional write-ups are two different things that I was so unaware of.

Now, I’ve heard so much of how formal and tough it is to work in an office – the heads, the workload, and all. And no doubt there was work and it got hectic managing with acads but my prejudice about the heads changed within a short span of time. At first, I remember how nervous I used to be but that ended pretty soon coz the heads there were so nice. Manali mam used to keep a box of candies and chocolates for everyone (and snacks too) – this was such a sweet thing she did and it was one of those things which made me comfortable there. Whenever Jenis sir used to come, he used to bring a whole fun vibe to the office. His super-chill and fun nature used to bring smiles to everyone’s face. Meanwhile, Bakul sir and Hiren sir used to work on the designs – which I used to sometimes observe. (I always wanted to try my hand at designing and it was during that time only when I started using Canva – still learning by the way!). In the background, we always played songs – there was always a debate about whether to play Bollywood songs or English songs.

Manali mam & Jenis sir <3

There was this Fun Saturday thing when we played games and ordered food. The pizzas turned out to be super-spicy. It was such a fun evening. I won, by the way, in the game (Just flexing). Such fun days were pretty frequent and trust me this boosted the morale of everyone so much. And in the last week there, it was Manali mam’s birthday. And there was a mini party in the office. We ordered pizzas and the funniest thing happened. We ordered 8 large La Milano’s Pizza – it wasn’t intentional though – the order was supposed to be of 8 medium-sized pizzas. And don’t worry, no pizza was wasted. It became one of the most cherished memories there. Trying to finish those pizzas but finishing only half of them. Me starting with the spiciest of them resulting in my slow speed in eating and everyone laughing, looking at my face. The whole atmosphere there was so good. And I feel so blessed to have my first experience as such a beautiful one.

This internship not only helped me realize some level of my professional capacity but also revealed some of my personal traits. Most important being that I can write if I just sit straight and focus. The captions which used to take me 15-20 minutes to write and hit right were now 5-minute things. I used to write my personal blogs, many times for a week with so many edits, but there I used to just sit and write it down with all the research and stuff in hours.

The first three months there were unpaid but full of memories and learning. And just when my 3 months were about to get over, I was offered a stipend if I agreed to extend it. Having some commitments, I was pretty nervous about whether to say yes or no. I said YES. And it was not about money. It was about this amazing feeling of doing something on my own and getting the first pay-cheque. I remember my mom telling me about her first paycheck and how she bought herself a pair of jeans with her own money and how that meant so much to her. I had this in my mind when I said yes.

PS: They ordered a cake for me too on my last day
And made it chocolate coz it's my favorite ;-;
Did you notice that Lil Agnes figure??

The last month was so fun. Having gained experience in the last 3 months and knowing everything about the clients and their work, I felt confident that I can do the work nicely. In the last month, I even got the opportunity to talk to clients directly. Before that, I used to get all the details from Manali mam and Jenis sir only. Talking to a client felt foreign. I was nervous but it went well (at least I hope so).

All those 4 months went incredibly well and so unexpectedly well. I am going to miss all the things but I know I’m taking back so many memories. On my last day, everyone brought me a cake – a chocolate cake. I was super-emotional walking out of the office.

With cake in my tummy, lots of memories in my heart, buckets of learning and ideas in mind, my first earned money in the bank account and a certificate in my mail, this internship ended.

PS: Future Zeba, you also got your periods on the last day and forgot your pad!!

5 Things my Mom taught me!

That's me - before puberty hit me and my mom - pretty as always :) Puberty hit me good! My mom still the same :') The context behind this very special blog is because it's my Mum's birthday today (PS: You can wish her in the comments below). And to do something special for her I decided to write things that she has taught me knowingly and unknowingly. I think that the most special feeling for anyone would be that they have made an impact, an influence on someone. That feeling is just more than money or love. It's a feeling of respect, and how the days you've talked has to lead to that breakthrough. And being my mom, she knows me for 19 years now (and 19 days, but not my point). I have mentioned her and my dad in many of my blogs but they both have taught me so much more. So, here are the 5 things I learned from my Ma: 1. Hustle as much as you can when you are young - this will ensure a comfortable life later! Now, I know this contradicts the point of 'Life i...

To the best week of 2021!

I know it's too soon to announce the best week but I feel I'm not going to have a better week in the remaining months of 2021.  I visited my Nani house and met my 6 cousins.  Played an endless number of card games. Mostly lost in all. Jammed to 2000s songs while playing. Got challenged to recognize songs just by the starting tune. Won that challenge with flying colors 😉 Got dressed up. Hijacked elder sis's jewelry collections🥵. Troubled her while sleeping by cuddling😈 My Younger sister combed my hair from time to time😂. Lots of internal jokes🤧 Middle sister making efforts to make the house of cards. And me like a pretty nice sister trying to crush that house😊 Comparing heights with both my brothers😬. Still proud to be the tallest🏆. Laughing on almost any random thing. Talking about school and online studies📖 The infinite arguments and exploring options for Movie night🎥 Fighting for who will get that last chip at 1am. Gulping down Jeeru bottles🥤 Everyo...

First days are always exciting, no?

To start with, I forgot to mention the GOOD news in the last blog. We crossed 5000+ All-time views on these blogs after 25 blogs. Yayy!! I am really grateful for this and so happy! I never thought these blogs will ever be such an important part of my life but now I can feel that these are growing into something more big and meaningful for me. So, thank you all of you who always took out time to read and comment on my blogs. I love you all💓 Having said that, let me start today's blog.  Being an experienced stationery-lover, the only thing I find exciting in a new academic semester is to start using new books and pens. Going all out on stationeries. Throughout the academic year, I crave vacations and when they finally arrive I crave using the stationery and new books. It's a never-ending cycle!! (My first blog was literally about  Vacations!!??..  ) Today, I woke up at around 7:20 (which is pretty early for me). I gave myself a pep talk and tried to lure myself to wake up ...
